Submit status report in 3 weeks: OHRC

BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa Human Rights Commission (OHRC) on Wednesday directed Superintendent of Police, Puri, to submit within three weeks the status report on the alleged kidnapping and murder of a girl of Chandanpur. The matter had taken a political colour with Opposition alleging that the accused are not being nabbed since they are close to Panchayati Raj Minister Maheswar Mohanty. The girl’s father Niranjan Patra had approached the Commission on Tuesday and alleged that his daughter was kidnapped and killed near a village under Chandanpur police stations limits. The girl was allegedly kidnapped on March 26, 2011 and a FIR was filed. Her body was found three days later near Malisahi village but the culprits are yet to be nabbed. WOMAN, CHILD KIDNAPPED: Meanwhile, the BJP Mahila Morcha also approached the Commission and submitted yet another case in which a woman and her seven-year-old son have allegedly been kidnapped since January 11. Although complaints have been lodged with Airfield and Mahila Police Stations, the family of the woman have not been given a copy of the FIR as yet, the party said. Led by chairperson of the Mahila Morcha Bijaylaxmi Mohapatra, a delegation submitted a petition before the OHRC which stated that Binodini Sahoo, who lived in Unit VI slums, had gone to drop her son at Vivekananda Siksha Kendra on January 11 morning. Since then, Binodini and her son have remained untraceable. The family first lodged a complaint with Airfield Police Station on January 11 night. Two weeks later, another complaint was lodged with Mahila Police Station. The BJP women’s wing said, the complainant has not been given a copy of the FIR while no attempt has been made to arrest the culprits.
