BHUBANESWAR: Alleging raw deal, the 3,000-odd coordinators of Model Cluster Schools (MCS) of the State have threatened to take to the streets if the State Government did not pay attention to their plight.
Under the National Programme for Education of Girls at Elementary Level, the Orissa Government had identified 3,160 clusters in the State where the drop-out rate among the girls is high and opened as many schools to increase enrolment.
A woman coordinator was appointed for each cluster and their mandate was to mainstream girls in the age group of 3 to 6 and 6 to 14 years. Each MCS comprises about 15 to 20 schools where girls are trained in vocations like sewing, dancing and musical instruments so as to rekindle interest in studies.
The MCS coordinators have alleged that they had been asked to work for 15 days a month but work load is such that they have to work all 30 days for completing their task. All that they get as remuneration is Rs 450 a month as travel expenses but the payment is made only once in six months.
Secretary of State MCS Coordinators Federation Gitanjali Kanhar said, they are getting less than Rs 15 a day which is even lower than the daily wage entitled to a labourer as per law. The federation demanded para teacher status to the coordinators and minimum wages by the School and Mass Education Department which is the administering department.
The coordinators also demanded CT and B.Ed training from the Government. |
