ANGUL: The sub-committee of the Assembly Committee on Environment toured Angul district for two days and inspected industries like Nalco, NTPC, Bhusan and MCL.
The four-member team was led by Debasish Nayak. They visited Bhusan and Nalco on Friday followed by NTPC today.
The committee reportedly asked NTPC management of NTPC-Kaniha to arrange for massive sprinkling work at ash pond site to control dust in the area. It also advised the power major to adopt a peripheral village for developmental activities under its corporate social responsibility.
The committee, among other things, asked NTPC to construct diversion road for village Takua and install third settling plant for coal slurry.
The committee members during their visit to Nalco asked the authorities to do more to arrest pollution.
They were, however, critical of the activities of Bhusan Steel authorities for doing nothing for establishing a rapport with people of the surrounding areas.
The members instructed plant authorities to strengthen ash disposal system and waste water disposal works and maintain their anti-pollution equipment in running condition.
The committee expressed satisfaction over the works of the Pollution Control Department and of the ministry concerned |
