Fake drug samples collected

PARADIP: The drug control squad has raided various medicine shops and found six unlicensed shops selling fake and sub-standard medicines in rural parts of Jagatsinghpur. The squad led by Drug Inspector Anjan Kumar Sahoo raided the shops in Balikuda and Jagatsinghpur blocks yesterday. Of the six, five shops were opened in front of Dasbaia primary hospital under Balikuda police limits and another at Galupada under Jagatsinghpur police limits. Cases have been registered against the shop owners Ranjan Mohanty, Niranjan Sathpaty, Chinmay Mohanty, Ranjan Panda and Pratap Das of Dasbatia area under Balikuda police limits and Ananda Prasad Mohapatra of Galupada area. The squad collected fake drug samples of 35 medicines and sent them to drug testing laboratory in Bhubaneswar and Lucknow. Drug Inspector Sahoo said there are around 550 medicine retailers and distributors in the district.
